My Experience with Adobe
Adobe platforms allow an individual’s dreams and creativity to be brought to life to create a masterpiece with their own design. Whether you’re a graphic design, public relations, or even business major, these adobe platforms can bring a lot of learning opportunities in creating a brand.
While beginning my time at Auburn I decided I wanted to major in Public Relations but was not prepared for the course work that went into it. I have no previous knowledge of graphic design and photoshop before becoming a public relations student. In my current style and design class we are learning how to use the Adobe apps to bring our creative skills to life. I never realized how important it is to have knowledge in adobe until applying for internships for my next semester.
Within this course I have enhanced my knowledge with Adobe Illustrator, specifically on how to create a personal brand logo, resume, cover letter templates, business cards and envelopes personalized to my brand. This has been my favorite learning project within this course. Once I began using the app and playing around what colors, fonts and spacing, I realized the importance this app is to specific majors. With hundreds of different tools to use on this platform, once I began to listen to tutorials and play around with the app, I believe my knowledge is increasing significantly in this area.
To enhance my experience with Adobe Illustrator, I first opened Illustrator to create my logo, I determined what components needed to be included within my portfolio. I began by searching for a font. I was looking for a font that was not too flashy but also had an artistic appeal. Illustrator offers hundreds of font options so choosing one was difficult. After analyzing around one hundred fonts I decided to use Belda. Then I began searching for colors that showed off my personality but also professionalism. Choosing navy and a beige was an easy decision with those being my favorite color. Then I had to play around with all the tools included on Illustrator to determine how my logo was formatted. My most used tools on Illustrator were the rectangle and the stroke tool to create my artwork.
With the tools involved in Illustrator, there are many ways to enhance your experience with Adobe Illustrator. There are hundreds of other tools to choose from when creating a logo in the future. The one major learning takeaway I have from this project was to fiddle around with all tools, colors and shapes until your work feels right. During this process I counted on a phrase I learned during lecture one in my course, “solid concept = solid design”.
Designing a Self-Branding Logo
After enhancing my knowledge on how to navigate Adobe Illustrator, we were takes with creating an adobe branding suite. Below is my personal logo I created on Adobe Illustrator through the knowledge I learned in my Auburn style and design course. The first step was to decide on a font and logo colors. I decided to use neutral colors to keep my logo professional with the addition of an artistic font to appeal my creativity. While keeping consistency of these colors and fonts, adding them to my resume, cover letter, business card and envelope, I was able to create repetition throughout my project.
Along with my logo I was able to showcase the CMYK process to both colors. Choosing a color theme gives your brand gives your brand depth by connecting your personality to your brand’s values. The colors navy and tan were chosen to keep my brand professional but also allow for creativity. Shown below, is my CMYK color process I created in my self-branding suite.
Future with Adobe Illustrator
Since expanding my knowledge in Adobe, I believe the creative side of me has enhanced being able to put my thoughts and designs on an app to bring it to life. With the creation of my logo and coloring, I was able to showcase my personality in a contemporary way through the use of Illustrator. Illustrator has opened many new doors and learning opportunities for my future in Public Relations. I plan to work with website design and organization in the future, so learning this new skill from adobe has helped me step in that direction.
